The War Years is a website dedicated to Second World War military history research.

The War Years is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should you provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

The War Years may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from May 2018.

What we collect

We may collect the following information:

  • Your email address

  • Your telephone number

We only collect your name, email address, and/or telephone number so that we can respond to a specific enquiry. If you would prefer not to share this data then we also provide a telephone number for you to call.

When you complete our contact form, the data is not retained on the website or web server. Instead, your contact information is sent directly to our email inbox.

Once the email has been read, and The War Years has responded the email containing your data is deleted. The War Years does not store any data within a database, spreadsheet or another data repository. We never share your data with any third party.

What do we do with the information we gather

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, in particular for the following reasons:

  • To respond to your specific enquiry. If we are unable to assist you then we will immediately delete any contact information provided to us. As a website for military history enthusiasts, we do not conduct any direct marketing or advertising activity.

We only retain data long enough to respond to your enquiry.

Will we use your information for marketing?

The War Years is a military history website for those interested in the Second World War. We do not retain your data for marketing purposes. We never knowingly share any data with third parties.

Children & privacy

This website is about the Second World War. We do not knowingly contact or collect information from persons under 18 years of age. If the website is knowingly contacted by someone under 18 years of age, for a school project, for example, we will immediately seek parental consent to respond to the enquiry. If we are unable to obtain parental consent we will immediately block contact and delete all data.

Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent any unauthorised access or disclosure of your data, we have put in place the following safeguards:

  • No data is stored on our Squarespace website or web server.

  • SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral. Search engines will only index the secure SSL version of this site, and visitors accessing the insecure version will be automatically directed to the secure version using HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security).

  • Basic contact information is sent via our contact form to The War Years secure email account.

  • All emails are deleted after an enquiry has been answered.

  • The War Years' LAN is protected by a firewall, antivirus software and intrusion detection. All software applications are regularly patched in accordance with good cyber security practices. 

How we use cookies
